Creating Places Where People Want to Live and Do Business is the title of the presentation at our Annual Information Forum to be held April 21, 2010. There will be a breakfast buffet at 7 a.m., followed by a presentation at 7:30. The event is Sponsored by the MCRPC, City of Bloomington, Town of Normal and Economic Development Council of the Bloomington-Normal Area.
James Brainard, Mayor of Carmel, Indiana, has been confirmed as the speaker. Carmel has been one of the fastest growing communities in the nation in the last decade and has been listed as one of the top ten places to live in the Midwest by Money magazine
James Brainard is Carmel, Indiana's first four-term mayor. During his tenure, the population of Carmel has grown from 25,000 to 75,000 people ranking it among the the nation's fastest growing communities. Under his leadership, Carmel has created a new downtown and arts and design district, added nearly 750 acres in community parks and open space and has significantly improved its transportation infrastructure.
The City of Carmel has won awards from the National League of Cities and the U.S. Conference of Mayors for community innovation and has been cited nationally for its efforts in implementing various "greeen initiatives" in its community planning and development. Carmel is also headquarters for a number of nationally-recognized corporations including Delta Faucet, Conseco and Thomson Consumer Electronics.
